Moving Beyond Bankruptcy

Government Shutdown & Bankruptcy

Laurie Shillito - Thursday, August 28, 2014
If you are thinking of filing for bankruptcy, but are unsure if the current government shutdown will impact you, we have the answers you need. The quick answer is no, the United States Bankruptcy Courts are OPEN, at least, for now.

While bankruptcy proceedings will continue, 780 employees in the Justice Department’s U.S. Trustee Program have been furloughed. Only one third of the employees in the program will remain, cause a slow, steady backup. The U.S. Trustee Program is a watchdog agency that monitors bankruptcy proceedings around the nation.

With all of this unrest due to the Government Shutdown, many individuals and business may need to declare bankruptcy. While the process might slow down a little, we here at Shillito and Giske can help you. We understand that financial troubles are not set to the schedule of the Federal Government. We are here to help you.

If you are in the Tacoma or the Puget Sound region, give us a call, we can help! Call us today and ask how we can help you get back in charge of your financial life.
